Disclaimer: This information is intended to supplement proper clinical training or hands-on surgical course. A level of basic medical and surgical training is assumed Info: How to perform the buried dermal suture. Standard technique and some variations. This suture is the most important element of a layered repair of a skin wound under tension. It closes these wounds without putting tension on the skin surface, optimising healing of the visible scar. It is the key technique that Dermatological and other surgeons use to achieve excellent skin closure in areas where people care how it looks. It also means that if using non-absorbable sutures as well on the surface, these can be removed early (typically within 5-7 days), because they are not holding the wound together. That should mean fewer stitch marks, better scars, happier patients, and high fives all round. NB The skin substitute used is made by 'Limbs and Things' who happen to be based in Bristol too, but I have no affiliation or financial interest. I would say (and you can see) that it works really well for practising suturing though, so I can recommend it. Neither do I have any affiliation to Ethicon who make the Vicryl suture used, but I do like their sutures in general.
