Today I’m unboxing and trying out the Korg opsix module — the fourth of the Raspberry-Pi powered Korg synth modules, alongside the Modwave, Wavestate, and Multi/Poly. But this one’s different… it’s FM, and designed by Korg Japan, not Korg R&D in California. Although the opsix isn’t a new product, this video looks at it from the perspective of someone who already owns the Modwave, Wavestate, and Multi/Poly. I wanted to see how the opsix fits into that family — what’s familiar, what’s different, where it excels, and where its workflow diverges from the other modules. So rather than a traditional unboxing, this is more about how an existing Korg module user experiences the opsix for the first time. As someone who started on FM synths in the late ’80s (my first was a DX100!), and still owns a TX7, I’ve been looking forward to testing this out. In this video I unbox the opsix module, get it set up, explore the librarian, walk through the FM architecture, try the arpeggiator and sequencer, and even import real DX SysEx patches.
