Christmas in Montreal | Best Christmas Markets in the City | Holiday Treats, St. Joseph's Oratory

Joyeux Noel from Montreal! We are embracing Montreal's winter wonderland to explore everything the city offers for the holiday season. The city really comes alive for Christmas and you don't have to travel to far to find a Christmas activity. There are three main Christmas markets so we knew those had to be on our must-see list, but there is also a light exhibit, ice skating, and Old Montreal sparkles at night under the lights. We begin our adventure at the Great Christmas Market of Montreal. This is exactly what you think of when you think of a Christmas market - a beautiful Christmas tree, artisans and vendors in elaborately decorated holiday huts, music, snow... It was amazing! And of course, a visit to a Christmas market isn't complete with a tasty treat (or two) and a warm beverage. At the Great Christmas Market we tried churros with homemade caramel sauce, maple taffy, hot beer, and warm spiced cider. It was the perfect way to kick off our Christmas adventure. The following day we visited Jean-Talon and Atwater Markets. Both are year-round farmers markets that embrace the holidays with activities, vendors, and even Santa Claus! Atwater Market also include the Christmas Village, which is a smaller version of the Great Christmas Market. There we continued our Montreal Christmas food tour with a raclette sandwich, coffee, and hot wine. Montreal is an old city - over 380 years old! - and with that comes a long and deep religious history. We had heard of a nativity museums in St. Joseph's Oratory that had over 125 nativity scenes from around the world, which felt like the perfect way to end our Christmas tour of Montreal. St. Joseph's oratory is one of Canada's most significant Catholic churches located on Mont Royal in the heart of Montreal. It's creche museum features the church's life-sized nativity scene as well as hundreds of creches from around the world. For only $3, it was a great activity and got us in from the cold! We aren't done with Montreal yet. Montreal is a winter city so we have so much more to explore and share. In the meantime, we wish you a Joyeux Noël from Montreal!
