Last part of BWV 150 (Nach dir, Herr, Verlanget mich). A Ciaccona (or Chaconne - variations on a ground. The theme is repeated 22 times). The text of this piece has an acrostichon: M E C K B A C H, the name of one of Mülhausen's burgomasters and fan of John Sebastian. [At least if one changes the first word of the third line: Krönet iso Führet]. There is no original, so it's not 100% certain that Bach composed it. If so, then it is one of his first and probably written around 1708. In its un-Bach simplicity the music touches the soul: consolatio musicalis. The English translation in the video is by Z. Philip Ambrose Music: Monteverdi Choir /J.E. Gardiner (CD 23 of his pilgrimage, recorded in Arnstadt). BTW: The text sung in lines 5+6 shows that Gardiner used the Old Bach-edition and not the NBA.
