Ever since I saw the old film of Flagstad lip synching to her Hojotoho, I promised myself that someday I'd find real footage of her actually singing. Well I did... and what unusual treasures they are! The first, from 1939, is a rehearsal for a Carnegie Hall benefit concert for a Finnish women's aid organization. In it, Danish tenor Lauritz Melchior, Norwegian soprano Kirsten Flagstad, Swedish contralto Karin Branzell, and American baritone Lawrence Tibbett sing the Finnish patriotic anthem, "Suomen laulu." The orchestral version (with NBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Eugene Goossens) from the concert broadcast can be heard here:    • Suomen laulu (Song of Finland)   The second clip, at 0:54, is from Flagstad's 1951-53 run in Purcell's Dido & Aeneas. .......
