In this short video, I show how to repot a peace lily that was staying too wet by switching to a better-draining soil mix. This peace lily was repotted a little over a month ago, but even a week after watering, the soil was still holding excess moisture. Over time, this can stress the roots and invite issues like fungus gnats. The plant was potted in a glazed container, which retains moisture longer. This can be helpful in hot weather, but once temperatures dropped, it became clear the soil was staying too wet. In this video, I walk through the repotting process step by step, including pre-wetting new soil, removing excess old soil when possible, setting the correct planting height, and lightly watering until drainage is confirmed. While this example features a peace lily, the same approach applies to many common houseplants that prefer evenly moist but well-drained soil.
