Press Briefing on CAPF Deployment in Riew School by HGB and GB of Riew Riew, December 13, 2024: A press briefing was held by the Head Gaon Burah (HGB) and Gaon Burah (GB) of Riew regarding the deployment of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel in Riew School, as ordered by P.N. Tunggon, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Siang District. The HGB stated that on December 6, 2024, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Siang District visited Riew village on the orders of the DC. The DSP inspected the school and instructed the villagers to renovate it. Acting on this directive, the villagers undertook the renovation work through self-help efforts, despite the substantial investment they had already made in the school’s development. However, the HGB expressed his discontent, stating that he was not informed about the subsequent deployment of CAPF personnel in the renovated school. He asserted that had they been aware of the intended use of the school for CAPF deployment, they would not have undertaken the renovation work. The HGB further accused the DC of misleading him and voiced his disappointment over the matter. He also declared that he and his supporters strongly oppose the deployment of CAPF personnel in the school. The situation has raised concerns among the villagers, who now demand transparency and accountability from the district administration regarding such decisions.
