Hare Krishna Mantra - Kuruksetra ~ Agnideva Dasa

A Bhakti art slideshow featuring images depicting the events that took place approximately 5,000 years ago on the battlefield of Kuruksetra. These events are narrated in the Vedic Classic history Mahabharata. At that time there was a great fratricidal struggle for succession to the throne of the vast Vedic Empire known then as Bharata. The protagonists were members of the two predominant Aryan Clans, the Pandavas and the Kuruvas, who were blood relatives. The conflict arose when the Emperor King Pandu suffered an untimely death. King Pandu left five sons who were too young to succeed to the throne of Hastinapur the capitol City of Bharata, so Pandu's elder brother the blind Dhritarastra, who was ineligible to reign due to his affliction, became the custodian of the Empire. However, when the time came for Pandu's eldest son and heir Yudhistira to succeed to the throne, Dhritarastra was reluctant to relinquish his control, and harboured designs to usurp the throne in favour of his own son Duryodhana. The Kuruvas plotted on many occasions to kill and disgrace the five Pandava brothers and their mother Queen Kunti, but each attempt failed. The Pandavas were banished from the Kingdom for thirteen years and upon their return were forced to resort to war in order to regain their rightful Kingdom. The struggle culminated at the holy place of pilgrimage known as Kuruksetra. The Pandavas were great devotees of The Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna who appeared as a Prince in the Yadu Dynasty, one of the five predominant Aryan clans known as Panchajanya. Lord Krishna who was related to both parties in the conflict became the chariot driver of Arjuna, the younger brother of Yudhistira, a formidable warrior, and renowned bowmen, whilst Duryodhana was granted the services of Lord Krishna's Army. So Lord Krishna although present on the battlefield remained neutral. As the two great armies amassed facing each other on the battlefield, Arjuna asked Lord Krishna to drive his chariot between the two opposing sides to observe who was lined up to fight against him. Arjuna saw many of his relatives in the enemy ranks, his cousins, uncles, grandfathers and teachers. Upon seeing his relatives, his resolve to fight left him and he broke down in grief. At that time Lord Krishna reminded Arjuna of his duty and proceeded to narrate the classic Text Srimad Bhagavad gita - the definitive Yoga treatise. During His narration Lord Krishna revealed to Arjuna His Virat-Rupa His cosmic form. After hearing Srimad Bhagavad gita, Arjuna realized his duty and regained his composure, thus the battle commenced. After eighteen days of fierce fighting the Pandavas emerged victorious and the just King Yudhistira succeeded as the rightful Emperor of Bharata.
