Making a Patchwork Witch Hat - Part 1 - Pattern and materials -

Let's make a Patchwork Witch Hat! It's that time again. When the sky starts to get a bit more rainy, the leaves begin to turn color, and the ghosties, ghouls, and goblins start coming out to play. You can sew this by machine, or by hand. By machine is recommended. This video starts off with Math, and supplies. The second video will focus on construction, which I will be filming once supplies arrive, to get it out to you as soon as possible. So, grab your cozy drink of choice, grab your pen and paper or digital note pad to take notes, and let's get started! ---------- ADDITION FOR MORE INFO FROM REQUESTS FROM THE COMMENT SECTION BELOW: Note I did add this addendum in part 2 of this series of videos, which you can watch here -    • Making a Patchwork Witch hat - Part 2 - Li...   Fabric yardage needed, approximately: If you are going with say 45" wide fabric, I would suggest, and this is very generous, about a yard and a half , for if you are doing the outer hat, the brim both top and bottom , and no lining. Make it 2 yards, if you are doing a lining. You can buy bias tape, in a packet which will do for this project, if you are not making your own, and make it at least double fold, half an inch wide. You can go wider if you feel you want to. For the interfacing you probably need no more than 1 yard, as you are only cutting out 1 piece for the brim, and one piece for the base. Also note that if you have a bigger head, or a lot a lot of hair, you will need more fabric. This also depends on your brim depth. if it's more than my measurements. If you're making a hat with a brim that would be the size of an anime character, (or doing a recreation of Sarah Spaceman's Rani hat) you will need a LOT more than what I suggested. --------- Fabric types and additional info: If you want a sweatband, I suggest you get petersham ribbon (also can be confused with grosgrain, and its a specific type of grosgrain) As for fabrics, I will be using quilting cotton, but you can use any fabric that will be woven, (no stretch knits or spandex) that will withstand the heat of being ironed to the fusible interfacing. So you can use wool, flanellette, possibly even Rayon/viscose/lycocel/ linen, or a combination of, or if you feel extra bougie, and have the money for it, silks.
