Ebola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever, which is a rare and fatal disease in humans and nonhuman primates like; gorillas, monkeys, and chimpanzees. Ebola is caused by a virus from the group of viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) viruses. Other viruses from this group include; Marburg virus, Dengue Fever, Lassa Fever and, Yellow Fever. Types of Ebola Virus Disease Species; Ebola virus (species Zaire ebolavirus). Bundibugyo virus (species Bundibugyo ebolavirus). Taï Forest virus (species Taï Forest ebolavirus, formerly Côte d’Ivoire ebolavirus). Sudan virus (species Sudan ebolavirus). What are the symptoms of Ebola? Dry symptoms; • Fever • Weakness • Muscle pain • Headache • Sore throat Wet symptoms; • Diarrhea • Vomiting Other symptoms; • Loss of appetite • Abdominal pains • Red eyes • Skin rash • Hiccups • Chest pains • Difficulty breathing • Swallowing Later stage; • Bleeding from; • Eyes, ears, nose & mouth • Rectum • Shock and, multi-organ failure How is Ebola treated? • No cure exists • Generally, the treatment of Ebola is supportive which can significantly improve chances of survival • Providing fluids and electrolytes orally or intravenously • Medication to support blood pressure, reduce vomiting and diarrhea, and to manage fever and pain. • In 2020, Two monoclonal antibodies (Inmazeb and Ebanga) were approved for the treatment of Zaire ebolavirus (Ebolavirus) infection in adults and children by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
