Sold: This 1963 Studebaker Wagonaire Daytona includes the 1962 Trailorboat camper pictured with it. The combo was displayed for a number of years at the Murphy Auto Museum, in Oxnard, California. Both are said to be in very good condition, with the Wagonaire featuring the V8 engine and front disc brakes that distinguished the Daytona model, in addition to the standard sliding rear roof and other distinctive features. The Trailorboat camper is one of approximately 400 believed to have been produced. It has a fiberglass body that incorporates a removable fiberglass boat on top. An outboard motor for it is carried on the camper’s A frame. The camper was painted to match the Wagonaire. It sleeps two and features a galley. The seller of this vehicle/camper combination is representing the owner in the sale. FEATURES A 259-cu.in. OHV V8 powers the Wagonaire. With a two-barrel carburetor, the engine was originally rated at 180 horsepower. There's a column-shift three-speed + overdrive manual transmission. The alternator has been rebuilt and the water pump replaced. An electric fuel pump was added. The transmission is a column-shifted three-speed with an overdrive unit. Per the seller, the powertrain is in “excellent mechanical condition.” With overdrive engaged, the car is said to cruise easily at 65-70 mph. The car wears Green Mist exterior paint, said to have been sprayed in the 1990s. “The paintwork is in good to fair condition,” notes the seller. The finish shows a few small blemishes along with fading on the hood. All the trim appears intact and in good condition. There’s no known body damage or rust. The unique sliding roof panel is said to be in good condition and operates normally. There’s also a folding step mounted in the tailgate. The Wagonaire, with its rear-facing third seat, is configured for up to eight. The second and third rows can fold flat to create a larger storage or sleeping area. COMES WITH Oars and some vintage camping equipment. Assorted memorabilia and period ephemera are included. Some service receipts and show awards. A vintage dealership pennant. Some spare parts are included. Extra hubcaps and an additional rearview mirror are among them. The cabin appears in very good shape, but with light to moderate overall wear. A unique feature is a glove box door that drops to create a flat surface. It also incorporates a vanity mirror. All the gauges work, except the fuel gauge registers ½ tank or below even when full. When it gets below ½ tank, you need to pay attention. The car retains its original cardboard headliner. A hitch receiver and rear air shocks were added to accommodate the trailer. The car drives on modern radial tires mounted on the stock wheels. The Trailorboat camper/boat assembly is also said to be fully serviceable. An outboard motor is fitted.
