A quick kiln opening full of many of the spring projects we have made recently on ClayShare. This was a cone 5 firing done on medium speed with a 2 hour preheat and a 15 min hold at top temp in an L&L e23T kiln. I love how the Paint Palettes came out especially the one with the little otter and can’t wait to share how they are made with you. I posted the link at the bottom of the page. The clay used here is mostly Laguna bmix5 although the sgraffito pieces are done with Laguna 16 porcelain. Mayco Speckled Buff engobe is a game changer. I love the way it looks with a clear glaze and with the new Speedball Natural Opal. I just applied 2 coats of it on bisque ware wait for it to dry then glaze as usual. The Blueberry, Tarot, Birdhouses and Sunflower underglaze transfers show here are from Sanbao Studio. The texture on the Tarot plate is my Stargazing rolling pin from claysharemarket.com and the underglaze is Speedball Black. With 2167 Clear on the inside then Blue Flame (2 coats) on the rim and outside and a coat of Mayco Light Flux on the rim. The Birdhouse tray is clear 2167 on the inside with Speedball Prisma Green (2 coats) on the rim and outside with light flux on the rim. The Blueberry dishes are glazes with clear 2167 on the inside with Speedball Dragons Eye (2 coats) on the rim and outside and Mayco Ligth Flux on the rim. The sgraffito flower plates were all done with Speedball underglazes then just have 1 coat of clear 2167. I may add some Mother of Pearl luster to then and fire them for a 3rd time, I feel like they need a little something more. What do you think? Over all it was a great kiln opening. The firing was perfect. Yes, I know that I didn’t use Pyrometric cones, I need to make more cone packs and will get them done for my next firing. The glazes all looked great so there were no issues that cones would have helped with but I do like having them in the kiln just in case.
