THE CALCULATION PART OF ZAKAT IS MENTIONED BELOW: 1 mitsqal = 4.24 grams 20 mitsqal (20 x 4.24 grams) = 84.8 grams 140 mitsqal (140 x 4.24 grams) = 593.6 grams The NISHAB for GOLD for ZAKAT = 85 grams of pure gold The NISHAB for SILVER for ZAKAT = 594 grams of pure silver A person is obliged to pay ZAKAT when he/she has 85 or more grams of gold(1 mitsqal) held with him/her for a year. Only after year he will be obliged to pay ZAKAT on it. But if he wants to pay it before a year, he can do so. For example, if a person has 100 grams of gold on the 1st of Muharram, 1435 H, and by next year 1st Muharram, 1436, his amount of gold got reduced to say 90 grams due to any reason, he is still obliged to pay ZAKAT on it since this amount of gold(90grams) is still above the nishab(85gms minimum). As per the stance of the Lajnah Daimah Wal Ifta’ (Fatwa Commission of Saudi Arabia Kingdom), the calculation of zakat of gold, silver, money, and traded goods are ALL COMBINED. Hence, the nishab for money and traded goods should be equalled to OR converted to the nishab for gold. So, its calculation should be combined with gold. For silver, there is a distinct calculation. Since 1 mitsqal equals 4.24 grams, therefore (140 mitsqal x 4.24 grams = 593.6 grams). We can take it to be as 595 grams as a rounded figure as per the stance of Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Shalih Al Uthaymeen. For example, a person has the following wealth at the end of the year: Gold 10 grams Money USD 2,000 Traded goods valued at about USD 3,000 Suppose 1 gram of gold = 55 USD (ASIAN rate) We convert money (2,000 USD) to gold in grams (i.e. 2,000 USD/ (55 USD/gram) ) = 36.36 grams of gold We also convert the traded goods(3,000 USD) to gold in grams (i.e. 3,000 USD/ (55 USD/gram)) = 54.54 grams of gold Hence, we add all gold in grams (10 grams + 36.6 grams + 54.54 grams) = 100.9 grams of gold 100.9 grams of gold makes him/her eligible to pay ZAKAT on it. Hence, 2.5 % zakat on 100.9 grams of gold will be: 2.5 % x 100.9 grams = 2.52 grams of gold If he intends to pay his zakat with gold, he can pay so but if he wants to pay with money, he can do that also. Thus, his zakat obligation in cash will be: 2.52 grams of gold x 55 USD/gram = 138.6 USD Generally today people have a lot of wealth in form of gold, silver, cash, etc. To calculate ZAKAT on it, gold, silver, cash should all be combined to arrive at a single value. To know whether a person is obliged to pay zakat or not, we can use the formula below: (NSB) = (weight of gold/nishab for gold) + (weight of silver/nishab for silver) If NSB is more than 1, the person is obliged to pay ZAKAT on it. If NSB is below 1, he is not obliged to pay ZAKAT. CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING EXAMPLE: Suppose a person has the following wealth: Gold 20 grams Silver 400 grams Money of 3000 USD We will first convert the money (3000 USD) to gold in grams = (3000 USD /(55 USD/gram)) = 54.54 grams of gold Thus, the total amount of gold the above mentioned person will have will be (20 grams + 54.54 grams) = 74.54 grams Now lets use the formula: NSB = (74.54 grams of gold/85 grams of gold) + (400 grams of silver/ 595 grams of silver) = 0.876 + 0.672 = 1.548 Since NSB is more than 1, the person is already obliged to pay zakat of 2.5% from his total wealth. And to pay the zakat of gold and silver, he may convert it to the currently accepted money. For this case, the amount of zakat for gold = 2.5 % x 74.54 grams x 55 USD/gram = 102.49 USD (as gold is priced at 55 USD/gram in ASIA) And the amount of zakat for silver = 2.5 % x 400 grams x 0.67 USD/gram = 6.7 USD (as silver is priced at 0.67 USD/gram in ASIA) Hence, TOTAL ZAKAT PAYABLE will be = (102.49 USD + 6.7 USD) = 109.37 USD ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please join our CHANNEL to learn more about ISLAM and its varied cultures around the world. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Youtube Channel link : http://yt.vu/+LearnAboutIslam ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TikTok ID : @HumanityInLove ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Audio Credits: • Arabian Nightfall #MusV ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ #Islamic#Islam#zakaah#zakat
