A Southampton Law School annual lecture recording from 1 May 2024 (audio and slides only). This lecture given by Prof Jocelyn Maclure (Stephen A. Jarislowsky Chair in Human Nature and Technology at McGill University, (CA)) was part of the Southampton Public Reason and Artificial Intelligence Workshop. Professor Maclure is a doctoral alumnus of the University of Southampton. His expertise covers numerous areas, including ethical and political issues surrounding AI. This Annual Lecture builds on his prior work, including "AI, Explainability and Public Reason: The Argument from the Limitations of the Human Mind" (Mind and Machines, 2021: https://link.springer.com/article/10..... Professor Maclure is also a public philosopher who has, among other accomplishments, served as the president of the Quebec Ethics in Science and Technology Commission.
