When it comes to type-casting, putting Jesse Plemons as the movie's biggest asshole is the best possible move to make for this movie. And his henchman, played by Aidan Delbis, who represents our Autistic friends held his absolute own in this movie, and I want to see more of this kind of casting. And his autism didn't play a part in the movie, like there was no reason for him to be that way, he just was. And THAT, Hollywood, is how you do representation. And for those of you who appreciate a powerhouse female performance, look no further than Emma Stone. And that's ... basically the cast. Bugonia is a small movie that feels much bigger than it needs to be, yet, when you watch it, you'll understand what I mean when I say that this is not your average small-scale movie. It's a kidnapping and hostage movie, where the culprits are amateur criminals, who have been radicalized into thinking that Emma Stone is an alien, bent on destroying planet earth. So they're like mini Nazis, who think they're doing humanity a service by committing this heinous crime. They're the characters you absolutely love to hate, but if they were real, you'd kick their asses without mercy. And I love how Emma Stone isn't the damsel in distress, weeping and crying in a corner the whole time. Not that I'm against damsels in distress, they serve a very important role in movies too. But Emma Stone matches wits with these guys. She's constantly trying to outthink them and figure out a logical way to escape this basement they've tied her in. And even when she's kidnapped, she does not cower or cry for help, she immediately takes matters into her own hands, because she is a rockstar of a boss bitch. The closest comparison I can make to this movie is 10 Cloverfield Lane, because 93% of the movie is Emma Stone trying to think and act her way out of this basement, and there's not a single boring moment in this film. Which is why I'm calling Bugonia a Master Beanlighter of a movie, as it is definitely one of the best films of the year. What's your favorite kidnapping story?
