Today, I’m excited to show you how to make a super cute shirred baby frock with a matching jacket. This step-by-step tutorial is perfect for beginners. Let’s get started! [MATERIALS NEEDED] • 2 meters of fabric • Matching thread • Elastic thread • Scissors • Measuring tape • Pins • Sewing machine [STEP 1: MEASUREMENTS & CUTTING THE FROCK] 1. Measurements: • Chest circumference • Desired frock length 2. Cut the Fabric: • Frock piece: Width = 1.5x chest measurement, Length = desired frock length + 2 inches • Straps: 2 pieces, each 2 inches wide and 10 inches long [STEP 2: SHIRRING THE FROCK] 1. Set Up the Machine: • Wind the bobbin with elastic thread. • Use regular thread on top. 2. Shirring: • Sew horizontal lines across the fabric, 1/4 inch apart. • Continue until the fabric is shirred to fit the chest measurement. [STEP 3: SEWING THE FROCK] 1. Side Seam: • Fold the fabric right sides together. • Sew the side seam. 2. Attach the Straps: • Pin the straps 2 inches from the side seams. • Sew them securely. [STEP 4: CUTTING & SEWING THE JACKET] 1. Cutting: • Front pieces: 2 rectangles, each half the chest measurement plus seam allowance. • Back piece: 1 rectangle, same width as the combined front pieces. • Sleeves: 2 pieces. 2. Sewing: • Sew shoulder seams. • Attach sleeves to armholes. • Sew side seams. • Hem the edges and sleeves.
