The Waterside Inn at Summerseat collapses into the river. Ramsbottom has the highest river levels in living memory. Bridges are closed until they they are inspected for safety reasons. Streets are flooded in Rammy as the grids and drains fail to cope with the rainfall. The footbridge at Chatterton collapses as the central pier is washed away. (never to be replaced). Boxing day chaos ensues! Bridge closures, road closures, traffic mayhem. ]I've seen two versions of the spelling of the park at Ramsbottom. NUTTALL (on O/S Map) and NUTTAL on a Park sign in the park. Confusing -but I now assume the O/S map version is the correct one.
