ARE YOU AN INDO? You very well might be. Indos are a mixed people. Today's younger generation is even further mixed and doesn't always know that their rich heritage makes them Indo! Indos have many different faces and many different backgrounds. Indos are typically people of Indonesian and European lineage originating from the former Dutch East Indies. Brief History: Indonesia was a Dutch colony known as the Dutch East Indies until December 27th 1949. Prior to this Indonesians and Europeans were residing on the main islands together. A hybrid group, known as the Indos, emerged as a mixed people and a mixed culture. Once Indonesia gained its independence, the brutal Bersiap period began which lead to ethnic cleansing of the nation. Indos fled for their lives in a massive Diaspora. Today Indos reside all around the globe with notable concentrations in The United States of America, The Netherlands, Canada, Australia and Indonesia. For more information visit www.TheIndoProject.org Who is The Indo Project? The Indo Project is a USA-based nonprofit organization that was established in 2009. We are a core group of dedicated Indo and Indo supporters who share the premise that our history and culture need to be preserved in the English language. The Indo Project was created to address these issues and serves as a clearinghouse of all things Indo in the English language. The Indo Project is dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and celebration of Indo culture and history through education and raising public awareness. Our mission is rooted in keeping alive the Indo history and culture in future generations and attaining recognition for what our first generation has experienced. The Indo Project wants to honor the legacy that our parents, grandparents and other Indos have left us and have worked so hard to attain... a future for the younger generations!
