The four muscles of mastication will be demonstrated in this dissection. First, the masseter muscle will be reflected from the zygomatic arch, then the ramus of the mandible removed to enter the infratemporal fossa and demonstrate the remaining three muscles, the temporalis, and the lateral and medical pterygoids. The termination of the external carotid artery into the maxillary and superficial temporal arteries will be demonstrated. The dissection of the infratemporal fossa will be extended to demonstrated the mandibular division of trigeminal nerve emerging from the foramen ovale. Finale, the chorda tympani joining the lingual nerve and the continuation of the inferior alveolar nerve to become the mental nerve will be demonstrated.
