THE COMPARISON YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR! Read on.... Timbersled SX vs 2MOTO R2 In a nutshell, the TS kit is AMAZING!! After 4 years on the 2moto, and then switching to the TS I couldn't stop from laughing all day, just couldn't believe how well it went in the powder. Love it! Ok, now read the rest. (side note: the ST & LT kits both float better than the SX, and the SX is awesome) Pros: Amazing in powder as seen in this video, we're talking 3' to 4' plus and it keeps going, it can't go uphill in 4' of powder, but it can level forever. Suspension is ridiculously good. 20" of travel. It's like riding on a big coushy couch. Gearing feels perfect, you're in 2nd, 3rd, 4th most the time All the stuff you hear about TS kits being hard to handle on hard pack is BS, I can pin it in 5th on the hard pack just as easy as I could on the 2moto. See 0:30. Maybe this is just the SX kit and the ST & LT kits are bad on hard pack???? I don't know, but the SX does great. If by some freak chance you do get a TS stuck, it is SOOOOooo much easier to get out. Simply pack the snow in front of the track, make sure the ski has a smooth exit, dump the clutch! Can poach a FRESH track from someone else if needed in DEEP powder. See 3:53. There was 3.5' of powder. I poached a track up a steep little hill no problem. You can't do that on a 2moto unless the track is at least a day old and somewhat hard. Fresh track vs old track - big difference. Cons: The contact point of the track is more rearward than the 2moto as well as your stock rear tire, which puts tons of down force on the forks, which makes you bottom the forks on little "normal" stuff. Anything over 5' high jumps and you'll bottom. This means you have to re-spring and re-valve the forks if you plan on jumping - and I do. All that ski pressure also makes the front end push more when cornering. the 2moto never pushed the ski in snow. It's heavier than the 2moto by about 10 pounds. Doesn't sound like much but get it stuck and try to lift it w/o a lifting bar like the 2moto has... Plan on buying a different set of fork guards ($30), you have to hack them up to put them back on over the spindle fork clamps. 2moto doesn't touch the fork guards. The spindle has twice the wall thickness of 2moto's spindle, meaning you won't bend it very easy - but the way it attaches to the forks is much weaker. This can be seen as either a pro or con I guess. Say you hit a stump. With a 2moto setup you might bend the spindle - but you'll be able to limp home with a crooked ski. Hit a stump with a TS spindle and the fork clamps break, allowing the spindle to rotate... and you have to get drug home. My take on the issue: Don't hit stumps! Speed is slower than 2moto on the roads, not a big deal It's definitely not as nimble or "bike" like feeling as the 2moto Could use a lifting bar to pull on as mentioned earlier I feel the 2moto puts the power to the ground better where the track is up under the bike more. The kind of situation where this helps would be in more hard pack spring like conditions - which is some of the funnest riding there is! Come spring time I'll have to do a better comparison here as I haven't actually ridden the SX in hard pack spring conditions yet. But I can feel the SX track spinning a lot, which means it may not be as aggressive in hard pack. We'll see.... (UPDATE. THE TS PUT THE POWER TO THE GROUND JUST AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER. THIS ISN'T A "CON") Because the 2moto's track is up under the bike more and contact point is very similar to your rear tire - you don't have to re-vavle/spring your forks when switching back and forth. This is a big plus IMO for the 2moto. Most guys don't want to have to mess with settings when switching things. OVERALL - Timbersled wins. The fact the it just keeps going and going and going and is really hard to get stuck out weighs the more weight and cumbersome steering feel. Don't discredit the 2moto though. I've ridden it for 4 years and had an absolute riot with it. I've had it in deep deep powder. It can do it (the R2 conversion helps a lot with this), you just have to twist the throttle harder and have some smarts to get to where you want to go. Plus, if bought used it's less than half the cost of even a used TS kit! Watch my other videos, it's not a bad option but I won't be switching back now that I've got the TS. The end.
