What does it mean to be a writer in the age of AI — especially if you're a student or faculty? In this video, I trace the full life of an academic paper written without AI, from initial idea to publication. Then, I rewrite the paper with AI, using it in progressively more intense ways: beginning with prompting, shifting to context, building writing and reviewing agents, and then using them to iteratively develop the paper for a particular journal. I also walk through my own identity as a writer and close by reflecting on what's really at stake — learning, meaning, and identity — along with general principles for thinking about writing with and without AI.
