Having been a playlist staple for so long, the arrival of Tres’ debut album felt both long overdue and pre-ordained. ‘Head Rush’ is a 17-track shindig that builds on his established brand while dripping some new spirits into the punch. The guestlist includes funklord Thundercat, close pal Ty Dolla $ign, electro-funk hero Toro y Moi, and buzzy newcomer Teezo Touchdown. Not that he needs to prove his versatility, our man delivered two versions of himself for Vevo. For “Type,” he played the cocksure emcee; for “Cactus Water,” he played the bandleader.
