Even before you hit the motocross track (if you ever do), it's more than likely that the lower upper bearing race on the steering stem bearing assembly will be split. While it won't fall apart while riding, it will cause a fair amount of slop and play in the handlebars. Not something your kid is likely to be effected by, but something you'll observe as a parent concerned for the safety of your child. The process of changing them out is a pain, so you'll only want to do this once. This is why I chose to upgrade the bearing assembly to the Pro Flo Sealed Bearing system, having replaced these with the All Balls OEM replacement option once before and having it crack on the first ride...
