Footage and rights provided by WSC Sports: https://tinyurl.com/heatchck The EuroLeague is finally back and it is back with a bang! Starting out with a super clutch performance from Zalgiris’ newcomer Sylvain Francisco. He was blazing hot in the finish scoring 15 out of his 19 points in the 4th, and ultimately gave Barcelona a kiss for goodbye with this one: Zalgiris wins this one in what many saw as the first upset of the season. And we got another one in Munich where Bayern managed to defeat last year’s runner-ups Real Madrid in a thrilling contest of scoring runs. With both teams going basket for basket in the first two quarters, Real Madrid finally managed to jump a bit with a 13:0 run after the break. However, Bayern did not plan on going down that easily. And in the 4th Bayern had their own 13:0 run which ended up being the deciding factor in this game led by Shabazz Napier. 25 points by Napier, and 19 a point and 10 rebound double-double by Johanes Voigtman were too much for Real in this game. Meanwhile, the new-look Partizan Belgrade squad faced Saski Baskonia in a game that gave us one hell of a highlight reel. Partizan used Baskonia’s lack of rim presence to attack them inside the paint, and led by big-men Tyrique Jones and Brandon Davies, they managed to control the lead throughout the majority of the game. However, as the two started running out of steam, Baskonia, inspired by the packed arena, started coming back into the game. Baskonia’s new acquisition Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, came up big-time in their winning efforts with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, while also managing to make the crowd go crazy with plays like these: Despite having a completely new roster, it seems that choking away 4th quarter leads is going to be a problem once again for Partizan. And speaking of that, Tamir Blatt was a real problem last night carrying Maccabi to a tougher than expected victory over ASVEL with a 21 point and 12 assists double-double performance. His playmaking opened up a lot of opportunities for teammates. Jasiel Rivero, who had an efficient 11 points and 9 rebounds and EuroLeague rookie Jaylen Hoard who scored 15 points. Next stop is Uber Arena, a happy place for Panathianiakos as they won their seventh title there last season. While Alba tried to give some sort of a pushback, the Greens are simply too strong, maybe even stronger than last year with the additions of Cedi Osman, Lorenzo Brown and Omer Yurtseven, who all played their part in this game. Panathinaikos’s roster is just too deep for Alba to compete with them, as they had 10 players who played double-digit minutes, with Kendrick Nunn and Mathias Lessort leading the way, with 16 and 14 points each. And, In a clash between two Euroleague MVPs, it was Mike James’ Monaco squad that easily blew by Nikola Mirotic’s Emporio Armani in this turn’s only blowout win. James was in action for the first time after the back procedure he had during the summer and he may need some time to get back to his old self. Thankfully for Monaco, Alpha Diallo had a big game for them with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Monaco used their superiority around the boards to get to 12 offensive rebounds and a 21-point lead at half-time and it was pretty much game over at that point. A great start of the season with big games from a lot of stars. My last video actually goes back to the few times when Euroleague superstars unlocked god mode and went crazy.
