In 2022, 175 nations adopted the Global Plastics Treaty, a landmark agreement aimed at cutting plastic production, improving waste management, and moving towards a circular economy. If fully implemented, the treaty could reduce plastic waste entering the oceans by over 80% and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2040, while unlocking $70 billion in savings and creating more than 700,000 jobs worldwide. The world is drowning in plastic — with over 8 billion tonnes produced since 1950 and only 9% ever recycled.
