CAPTURE OF A FEMALE BLACK MAMBA, & THEN A MALE WHO FOLLOWED HER SCENT!

Last week, veterinarian Dr. Carla Goede & I responded to a call for a Black Mamba in a garden, in Westville North, Durban, South Africa. As you'll see, we removed the mamba out of a tree, although she had been on the ground by the bushes below. Later, we identified her as a female. She had made for a tricky capture, but we got her out as gently as possible thanks to good team work. Safe mamba, safe dog that's on the property (not sure if there were dogs next door). The very next day, we were called back to the same garden. As you will notice, there was another Black Mamba, a male, EXACTLY where the female was. Isn't their sense of smell incredible?! June-August is mating season for Black Mambas. Females leave pheromones, scent trails, for males to follow. That's exactly what happened here.
