The Sacrifice of the Mass Catechesis in Preparation for Attending Priestly Ordination Rev. Mr. Kevin W. Vogel Originally given June 2, 2010 -- June 1, 2011 "You have given them Bread from Heaven." The Sacrifice of the Mass is meant to be a catechetical resource for describing the Catholic Mass. It uses the context of the Priest Ordination Mass and the Mass of Thanksgiving, with the hope to better enable those attending such events to understand what is occurring and to participate more fully. The audience format, based on the Wednesday audience format of the Holy Father, will begin by describing the foundations of the Catholic Faith before moving into the specifics of the Mass. The audiences contain images taken from the Sacred Art tradition of the Church, the deacon and priest ordinations Masses of Fr. Kevin Vogel as well as his Mass of Thanksgiving, and from four churches. The first is St. Cecilia Cathedral, the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. The other three are Ss. Peter and Paul and St. John Nepomucene in Howells and Holy Trinity in Heun. These are the three parishes associated with Howells where Fr. Kevin Vogel grew up. Included in this catechesis will be reference to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite (which was the form of the Mass used before the Second Vatican Council and can also be celebrated now). The reason for this is not to try to go back to old ways, but to help enrich the theological understanding of the current form of the Mass we use today, the Ordinary Form of the Mass. Rev. Mr. Kevin Vogel was ordained a transitional priest for the Archdiocese of Omaha, Nebraska, on May 28, 2010. "Transitional" mean that after one year as a deacon he was ordained a priest on June 4, 2011. His Mass of Thanksgiving was in Howells on June 5, 2011. Fr. Kevin Vogel grew up on a farm near Howells, Nebraska. He studied physics at the University of Nebraska at Kearney before hearing God's call for him to enter the seminary. He studied philosophy at Conception Seminary College in Conception, MO and theology at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis, MO.
