Colorado Convention Center Expansion Crawler Crane Assembly

The 200,000 SF Colorado Convention Center Expansion project includes 80,000 SF of column-free multi-purpose ballroom space with steel pieces that weigh up to 100,000 pounds each. Given the open concept design of the structure and the sheer size of the steel pieces, the project team addressed these challenges by reinforcing the existing structure to allow a crawler crane to be assembled and operational on the roof to complete the work over the next six months. This video highlights the multiple day assembly of the Lieber LR1300 300 ton crawler crane on the roof of the Colorado Convention Center that consisted of 30 flatbed trucks delivering all the parts. At the completion of the assembly, the crawler crane raised its boom for the first time and moved into position to continue the build-out of the Colorado Convention Center Expansion.
