Does Buffered Shotgun Shot make better turkey or waterfowl hunting ammo? What is it and what does the buffer material do? This is an in-depth review of buffered shot, how it works, why it's used, and what the benefits are for pattern density and ballistics gel performance. I draw from real test data and give real examples of buffered turkey hunting ammo and buffered duck hunting loads. The New Hunters Guide podcast: http://www.newhuntersguide.com/ Support the channel on Patreon: / thenewhuntersguide BOSS Shotshells gave me the Warchief bismuth ammo that was shown in the video and used to generate the data presented, I bought the Winchester Longbeard XR lead turkey hunting ammo shown but Winchester has given me shells in the past. Shotgun wads may also have a buffer or crumple zone, and there may be a buffer between the powder and the wad. I discuss both of these and how they dampen the effect of rapid acceleration on the shot to keep it from deforming. But buffer materials like walnut, flax seed, plastic microbeads, and hard resin make a much larger difference on performance. Unbuffered shot may be better for short range hunting when you need the pattern to open up faster. Buffered shot is best for long range hunting to keep tighter patterns at distance. #waterfowlhunting #duckhunting #turkeyhunting
