One of the deepest longings of the human heart is to know that our lives matter — that we are seen, known, and called for something bigger than ourselves. In today’s readings from Isaiah, Corinthians, and John’s Gospel, we hear a shared and steady message: God calls people by name, not because they are perfect, but because He is faithful. Isaiah (Isaiah 49:1-7) reminds us that God’s call begins long before we feel ready or capable. The servant is called before birth, yet still feels discouraged and worn down. Many of us know that feeling — trying to do what is right and wondering if it makes any difference. God gently lifts our eyes to see that His purposes are often larger than what we can measure. His call is not only personal; it is outward-facing — to be a light for others. Paul in 1 Corinthians 1:1–9 writes to a struggling church and begins not with criticism, but with gratitude and grace. God does not call us because we are strong; He strengthens those He calls. Our hope rests not in our consistency, but in God’s faithfulness. In John’s Gospel chapter 1:29-42, the disciples encounter Jesus, stay with Him, and then naturally invite others. Andrew simply brings his brother to Jesus — and Jesus does the transforming work. Across these readings we hear one invitation: listen when Christ says, “Come and see.” You don’t need all the answers or perfect faith — only a willing heart to follow the One who calls you by name and sends you with purpose.
