Most watch enthusiasts are well aware that Omega’s Speedmaster was the timepiece chosen to accompany Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on their first moonwalk in 1969, and the Swiss watchmaker has been paying tribute to that heralding feat ever since (and understandably so). However, the first Omega in space was actually the ref. CK2998 worn on the wrist of Wally Schirra aboard the Sigma 7 spacecraft as part of NASA's Mercury program in ‘62. Many of the brand’s homages have been missing something that the original possessed.
