(31 Aug 1997) English/Nat The body of Dodi Fayed, who was killed in a car crash with Princess Diana early on Sunday, has been buried in Britain. It was taken first to a mosque in London for prayers. Then the Harrod's heir was laid to rest in a cemetery near Guildford, in Surrey, a county just outside London. The body of Dodi Fayed arrived at Regent's Park mosque in central London at around 8 p.m. local time (1900 GMT). Prayers were said for the dead man inside the mosque while others gathered outside to pay their respects. Dodi had partied with the rich and famous, and became a celebrity in his own right when he began dating Diana. Although he was Egyptian, his father, Mohammed Al Fayed, who owns the famed Harrods department store in London, specifically requested that his son be buried in England. This was despite the fact that British authorities had denied him (Mohammed) citizenship. A regular worshipper at the mosque said that although Dodi's father was visibly sad, the ceremony was otherwise typical. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Q: And how was he (Mohammed Al Fayed? A: Obviously as his father he looked sad. Q: And was there any special ceremony, you always come here, was it different, this ceremony? A: It was usual, but maybe there were more people." SUPER CAPTION: Worshipper at Regent's Park mosque Unlike his father, Dodi Fayed was little known in Britain until his romance with Diana hit the headlines last month. After the service the body was taken on to the neighbouring county of Surrey where it has now been buried.
