Good morning family! In this video I will be showing those who are new to gardening how to get started. This video will cover in ground planting and plant separating to get the most bang for your buck. I am an organic gardener, so no chemical fertilizers or chemically enhanced products will be used. I use Kellogg organic soil products and steer manure for my plantings, along with compost when available. The area I am planting in was amended a few weeks ago, so you will not see me adding in worm castings, bone meal, or slow release fertilizers. However, these are all great additives to help your plants thrive. To get started you will need a shovel or hand trowel (something to dig with), fertilizer or compost or both, water, and the plant of your choosing. Read the plant label thoroughly to make sure you have chosen the correct location for planting. Gloves and knee pads are optional. When removing your plant from its container, never pull from the stem. This may cause irreparable damage to your plant. Instead, massage or manipulate the container. If your plant is root bound or doesn’t easily slip from the container, you may need to add stronger pressure to the pot. place your hand at the base of your plants stem, turn the pot sideways or upside down if possible and gently wiggle your plant free. Only do this when you are ready to place your plant in its new home. Never leave a plants roots exposed. Dry roots equal dead plants. Now that you have everything, let’s get started!
