Transcript: When they come in they say what am I gonna feel what's it going to be like what happens is you'll come in will lay down the table you'll be fully prepped and gown and draped and they'll clean your leg and then you'll come in we'll put some more ultra sound gel so you'll feel the gel on your leg and you'll feel me looking around with the ultrasound to get a lay of the land and kind of plan the procedure and then you know before any needle stick I'll warn you it'll be one pinch and a burn right around your knee with some numbing medication it lasts for a few seconds similar when you're going to the dentist and getting a numbing in your mouth after that you may feel a little bit of pressure as I put the catheter inside the vein but it goes inside the vein so you don't really feel it I'm guiding it with ultrasound to where it needs to be and then there's a few needle sticks along your thigh usually two or three and what you feel there's you'll feel the pinch with the needle and then you feel some pressure and what we're doing at that point is we're pumping in some numbing medication that goes in it surrounds the vein squeezes the vein shut redirects the blood out of that vein into the deep vein and numbs the tissues and that's really the only part the procedure or anybody ever describes any discomfort but it lasts two or three minutes after that you don't feel anything as we heat the vein and withdraw the catheter that part you don't feel anything at all and then we're finished put it put a small little bandage on those sutures no stitches and then put a compression stocking on you and then you go about your day
