This is the pharmcook review of the Sowtech BD-CG-011 burr type coffee grinder. This is not a paid review. This is just my impression of an inexpensive coffee grinder that I purchased at Amazon after my previous grinder died. As is likely the case for many of you, coffee is an incredibly important part of my life. However, that doesn't mean I'm going to happily fork over big bucks on a grinder. I'd prefer to spend money on good coffee, good food, good wine, good music...in short, anything other than another specialty product that does ONE thing and takes up a lot of space in the kitchen. And, I still need coffee. Sigh. After my previous grinder died, I took a look at several "mainstream" review sites for options. The choices they provided were either grinders I'd previously had (e.g. the Cuisinart DBM8 or it's replacement) or models that were more than $150. The Cuisinart was the model that I had been using for the past 10+ years. Because I'm a frugal bugger, I kept using it until it died, but I was never happy with it. The grinds were inconsistent. Even on the most coarse setting, it would include enough fine particulates that the resulting cold brew would leave a fair amount of residue. It was REALLY loud. Sigh again. If the reviews best inexpensive model was the Cuisinart that I'd spent the past 10 years with, I guess that means I should look at some of those more expensive models (e.g., Bartaza and Fellow). Gulp. I then took a look at some of the reviews for those pricey models. I was surprised that many reviewers were not pleased with the products. I wasn't expect major usability issues in specialty products costing that much. It was clearly time to change tactics. Saw the Sowtech BD-CG011 for $59.49 with more than 1,000 reviews, most of which were 5 stars. Checked the comments in the reviews. Just about everyone seemed pleased with the purchase. I took a shot! And, I've been very happily surprised with the product. tl;dr-it does what it's supposed to do well. Longer version: it grinds beans into the appropriate selected size. It does so quickly and efficiently. The grind is reasonably uniform. It's also the quietest coffee grinder I've ever had. It's engineered to be easy to clean. It's also reasonably compact. Doesn't take up a huge amount of space in the kitchen. If you are in the market for a coffee grinder, you might want to consider this model.
