Tales From the Front Lines: Unique Uses of Medical Cannabis – Patient Cases — with Dr. Carlo De Angelis Dr. Carlo De Angelis, PharmD Clinician Scientist - Oncology Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, University of Toronto Dr. De Angelis is an Assistant Professor at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto where he teaches in the third year Oncology Therapeutics Course. He is also involved in training pharmacy students from both the University of Toronto and Waterloo Schools of Pharmacy. Dr. De Angelis has given numerous presentations at local, national and international meetings with a focused on symptom management and supportive care in the adult oncology setting. His areas of research interest include the prevention and management of cancer treatment related side effects particularly in the elderly and the role of pharmacists in improving outcomes of targeted anti-cancer therapies. He is working to develop a Research Program to evaluate the use of plant derived cannabinoids for symptom management in the oncology setting. Over three years ago, Dr. De Angelis has offered a Cannabis Consultation Service at Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre, to meet the needs of cancer patients interested in using plant derived cannabinoids for medical purposes. This is the first such Service dedicated to cancer patient use of plant based cannabis in Canada. Learning Objectives • Discuss the value of an in-house cannabis consultation service. • Describe the approach to medical cannabis use in patients with food allergies. • Identify potential unique medical uses for cannabis.
