The Bitterroot Valley stretches for 95 miles across southwestern Montana, along the blue ribbon trout fishery Bitterroot River. It's sandwiched between the Bitterroot Range and Sapphire Mountains, from Lost Trail Pass at its southern end to Missoula at its northern end. Lewis & Clark passed through here. It was home to Montana's first white settlement, founded by Jesuit missionaries to the Bitterroot Salish tribe. The small towns are charming, and it's a recreation paradise for hiking, biking, rafting and more. It's so beautiful, this is where they film the TV series "Yellowstone".
