'When we are on the spiritual path, we pick up a lot of ideas about awakening, liberation and enlightenment. We start to imagine that one day my life will be perfect because I will be so fulfilled, so free and so in bliss. We read texts written by teachers long gone who describe their experiences and the states of consciousness that they are in. We imagine that that is really it. That must be what I am searching for. That is somehow the aim, the goal of my life. Maybe if I would fulfil all the requirements and all the criteria for those enlightened persons then I would be rewarded by these amazing states.'
