4/26/1945 Map and Mission by Talent( 人才) https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/f... During the final Soviet assault in late April 1945, Wilhelmstraße became one of the most fiercely contested streets in Berlin because it ran straight through the heart of the Nazi government quarter. As Red Army units pushed westward from the Spree and Alexanderplatz, Soviet tanks—mainly T-34-85s and IS-2 heavy tanks—advanced along major boulevards like Wilhelmstraße to punch through remaining German defenses. German forces, made up of SS remnants, Volkssturm, and scattered Wehrmacht units, attempted to block these advances using barricades, panzerfaust teams hidden in ruins, and the few remaining armored vehicles. Several Soviet tanks were knocked out at close range as they moved between shattered ministry buildings, turning the street into a deadly corridor of rubble, smoke, and burning vehicles. Despite these losses, Soviet armor supported by infantry and assault guns steadily ground forward. Tanks fired point-blank into government buildings such as the Air Ministry and nearby offices, while infantry cleared basements and upper floors to prevent panzerfaust ambushes. By 28–29 April, Soviet forces had effectively broken German resistance along Wilhelmstraße, isolating the Reich Chancellery and bringing tanks within a few hundred meters of Hitler’s bunker. The fighting on Wilhelmstraße wasn’t a single dramatic tank duel, but a brutal series of short, violent engagements that symbolized the collapse of Nazi authority—Soviet tanks rolling past the very buildings from which the war in Europe had been directed, now reduced to ruins.
