In the heart of Auroville near Pondicherry, there's a golden sphere that looks like a temple but isn’t one. It’s called Matrimandir, and it was never built for religion. The idea was born through Mirra Alfassa, known as The Mother, who was the spiritual collaborator of Sri Aurobindo. Together, they explored the future of human consciousness. When Sri Aurobindo withdrew from public life, The Mother carried forward his vision, eventually laying the foundation of Auroville in 1968 — a township with no politics, no money, no religion — only humanity. At the center of Auroville stands Matrimandir. Inside, a 70 cm optically perfect crystal sphere floats in silence, capturing natural light and reflecting it through the chamber.
