March 29, 2023 Save Crystal River & The Kings Bay Restoration Project Celebration

Save Crystal River, a nonprofit established in 2012, celebrates the success of 92 acres of eelgrass restoration within the Kings Bay Restoration Project located in Crystal River Florida and is working to secure funding for another 85 acres to be restored. Now, 10 years later, over 400 million pounds of Lyngbya (blue green algae) has been removed, over 850 previously unidentified spring vents have been opened, over 400,000 hand planted eelgrass plants planted in the 92 acres which have now spread to nearly 300 acres of lush eel grass meadows, providing improved water quality, increased species diversity, increased shelter, food and habitat for many species of fish and invertebrate as well as the beloved manatee.
