Track work near Sherman, MS, created a bottleneck that slowed trains in and out of Tupelo, MS. Today's catches included two unit coal trains and two high-priority manifest trains. H-BIRMEM runs the entire length of the Birmingham Subdivision from East Thomas Yard in Birmingham, AL, to Tennessee Yard in Memphis, TN. H-BIRMEM frequently runs with large cuts of autoracks. H-MEMAMO is a shorter, daily service from Tennessee Yard in Memphis to the BNSF Amory Yard. Many cars on this train are destined for shortlines in the Columbus, MS, area. I caught the E-PAMNAM at the major intersection between W. Main St. (MS-6) and Gloster St. (MS-145) in downtown Tupelo, MS. 20 MPH is the imposed speed restriction through downtown Tupelo on BNSF rails, so the empty coal train took quite some time to clear the crossing, causing a sizeable traffic jam. Interestingly, one of the RDPU locomotives had been taken off in Alabama, leading to a 2x0x1 configuration (as opposed to the more common 2x0x2 power configuration). Finally, the C-WTMPAM cleared the BNSF/CPKC interlocking crossing east of downtown Tupelo at 20 MPH. This loaded coal train still had a few hours to go before reaching the J.H. Miller Power Plant in Palos, AL.
