Before Amazon, before Walmart, there was Sears. Richard Warren Sears started off selling pocket watches — then built a mail-order catalog so massive it sold everything from shotguns to cocaine-laced wine. The catalog became an American instutiion. For millions living on remote farms in the late 1800s, Sears wasn’t just a store — it was a lifeline to modern life. But as retail changed, Sears adapted, buildng a vast chain of physical stores. Sears wasn't the only one to chage — specialist big-box stores, suburban megamalls, and new competitors surged forward, pushing Sears into a slow, brutal decline. What followed was one of the most dramatic collapses in American business history. #sears #retail #retailhistory #captialism #howitworks #shopping Subscribe: Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...
