So I learned a few new things while I was working on my documentation and experiments for modifying .brlyt files, I decided I make a quick video about the progress I made so far. So in the original game, you have the Grand Prix, Time Trials, VS Race and Battle buttons (and the unused Mission mode button, whatever). There's this video file that's being played inside those buttons that fades away on the right side... Interestingly, the video is split in 4 different sections, the most-left one being the most opaque, while the one on the right is the most transparent one. This video only fills up the half of the button. So you might ask, what's the other half of the button?? Apparently that's a complete black texture to simply fill the button. So what I did was I took the video sections out, placed them to the right side of the button and I fooled around with all those textures that the menu uses for those buttons. What's more interesting is that you can get rid of the size-changing animation whenever you hover over a button, without removing it completely! Since all those parts that make those buttons complete are in sub-folders structure-wise, you can simply put the stuff you don't want to have its size changed into a different sub-folder. For reference, pretty much everything aside from the "touch" object is put in a sub-folder named "pause_w_null". But all of this is also being put in a different sub-folder (like putting a zip file into a zip file; it's double-archived). You just drag all of the stuff out and put it in the folder above, and magically those objects don't change size anymore! More information: The first menu page's button brlyt filename is "common_w129_movie_button_single_top.brlyt". For simply changing the position of the buttons, you can modify "SingleTop.brctr" instead; I used Switch Toolbox for changing the .brlyt files, and fixed cut-off text with Benzin (if they suddenly bug out like that); I also used Wexos's Toolbox for modifying SingleTop.brctr; Making the "touch" object's pane invisible prevents the player from hovering over the buttons. This object alone is the hitbox for those buttons, hence why I can't highlight a button if I go over the video objects on the right. Mario Kart Wii (c) 2008 Nintendo
