Gerard Vroomen, Andy Kessler and their company OPEN CYCLE AG have threatened to sue for defamation regarding their OPEN UP frame which was described as *hite. It now transpires their bikes do not meet the specifications they state they meet and the designers knowingly sell them like this. This is a 47minute technical video about some of the shady engineering practices that these guys use. These guys can't handle some well deserved criticism and would rather attempt to bully their way out of their substandard manufacturing and sprinkle it in some of the finest BS that has graced the engineering profession. Summary of Key Points ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The original OPEN frame was found to have a bottom bracket that was neither round, parallel or aligned. One side was extremely tight, the other was totally slack. The plaintiffs claim they are not required to meet any "mandatory standard" despite them openly advertising it as BB386EVO sizing (and Vroomen get's that wrong on his blog!!). They claim they design their frames to their own sizing [THIS IS A COMPLETE SCAM, UNETHICAL AND UNSAFE]. They have been asked to provide their sizing, they have so far refused to do so and no mention of their unique sizing is anywhere on their website. **IF YOU BUY AN OPEN FRAME, there is no guarantee the bottom bracket will meet the specifications. So if it falls out or it shreds bearings, that is acceptable!! If you have already bought an OPEN frame, these are grounds for a claim for selling by misrepresentation** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. The plaintitts claim that it was stated in the original video that OPEN ignored a warranty claim on safety grounds. It appears the frame owner tried to initiate some dialogue with OPEN and they simply ignored him. They went back to him once the original video had aired. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. The plaintttits claim their frames do not have voids and are well engineered etc. They stated they recovered the original frame for inspection BUT didn't even bother to check it before asking lawyers to get involved. (That is not a joke! they really did do that) THEY HAVE ADMITTED THE ADDITION OF A KINK IN THEIR FRAMES WEAKENS THEM. They claim their frame is well designed and engineered because others have copied it.
