Delivery of Judgment - BZCV2024/003 Controller of Supplies and others v Gas Tomza Ltd and Others

This is a judgment delivery in a case involving a constitutional dispute from Belize. The Appellants comprise of the Controller of Supplies, the Minister of Economic Development and the Attorney General, who are appealing the decision of the Court of Appeal that held that the Government of Belize had infringed upon the constitutional rights of the Respondents regarding their right to work and right to property. This had effectively prevented them from importing Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) into Belize. The Respondents, which are four privately owned Gas Companies in Belize, did not succeed on claims of violations of freedom of association and equal treatment, and accordingly, filed a cross-appeal to the CCJ on those grounds. The hearing of the appeal and cross-appeal will be held on 25 and 26 March 2025 at the Seat of the Court.
