B.Sc Nursing Vs Post Basic B.Sc Nursing Courses: First I will address the most common comment or you can say the most common question on our youtube channel i.e whether the GNM course in being phased out. The answer to this question is a big YES, The 3 years GNM nursing course is being phased out by 2022. And the last admission will be done in 2020 only. There are various pros and cons of phasing out of the GNM course but the fact is that it is being phased out and if you are interested in the Nursing you should look for another available course. Now let us move to another frequently asked question that so many of you have asked whether I should do Post basic B.Sc Nursing or B.Sc Nursing. For deciding that you should be aware of various facts about both these courses like eligibility to join these courses, duration, course curriculum, average fee and career prospects and a difference in salary, etc. So let me tell you the most important difference between these courses lies in the first step of joining them. If you have done your 12 class with Science subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology and/or Mathematics then you can think of joining B.Sc Nursing Course which is a 4 years Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Without this qualification you are not at all eligible to join B.Sc Nursing. Whereas if you have done your 12 class, stream hardly matter here but you must have done 3 years GNM courses and must be Registered as Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives with the relevant body. Besides this, some institutes may also demand an experience of certain years in the field of nursing for providing admission in 2 years B.Sc Post Basic Nursing. We can say that Joining B.Sc Post Basic Nursing course can be a lateral entry in the Nursing degree courses. Now that the GNM course is done away with there is a little confusion about the basic eligibility to join the Post Basic B.Sc Nursing course in the future. Now come to the relevance of both the courses. So as far as relevance or equivalence of both of these courses is concerned, both the courses once completed are equally important and relevant in the practical field and both are considered as Bachelor’s degrees. With any of these two degrees in hand, you can go for higher studies like M.Sc Nursing, etc. So if you are looking for higher studies in the field need not bother about which to join. But if you have done your 12th class with science subjects and want to save some time then you should go for B.Sc Nursing as it will help you get a bachelor’s degree in 4 years after your 12th class. Whereas to get a B.Sc Post Basic degree you need to join GNM after your 12th class to be able to join it. It will take 1 year longer 2 years of 12 class 3 years of GNM and then 2 years of Post Basic Nursing. A total of 5 years after 12th class. So joining 4 Years B.Sc Nursing course can be a better bet after your 12 class subject to fulfilling other eligibility conditions. Now let us compare the expenses I mean fee that you have to pay till the completion of your degree courses. On this front both the courses are neck to neck although B.Sc Post Basic Nursing taken 1 year more then B.Sc Nursing there is not much considerable difference between the two courses and it will not be a wise thin to join either of the courses on the basis of the difference between the two. As far as career prospects after B.Sc Nursing and B.Sc Post Basic Nursing are concerned then a little more weightage is giving to the students with B.Sc Post Basic Degree holder because they have hands-on experience of the nursing field and they do deserve a little more weightage, they have spent one year extra to get an equivalent qualification. So it is up to you to decide on this front. If you are thinking of the difference in job opportunities, Career prospects, Job profile, salaries, etc. then you cannot find much difference in these aspects. So, there is not a huge difference between the two Nursing courses except in the eligibility condition, duration and a little bit of fee variance. So if you want to get admission in 4 years B.Sc Nursing course you can join a medical institute like • Govt. Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh • Delhi University, Delhi • ECR group of Institution, Karnataka and • Baba Farid University of Health Sciences courses, Faridkot, etc. and if you are looking to do B.Sc Post Basic Nursing then • AIIMS, New Delhi • Calcutta Institute of Nursing and Paramedical Science, Kolkata • Jamia Hamdard University, Delhi and • Symbiosis College of Nursing etc. are the better destination for you.
