Our Essential Relation to Truth (2 John 1-6)

The letter of 2John is a sequel to John’s first letter. It continues to demonstrate who is of Christ and who is not with the defining emphasis being truth. The recipient of this letter was being pressured to compromise the true in Christ (vs. 7-11). As with 1st John a clear line of distinction is drawn between the saved and the unsaved which is defined based on a person’s commitment to the truth in Christ (vs. 7,9, 10). John’s instruction to maintain the integrity of true doctrine is given with a serious warning (vs. 8). He commands his readers not to have anything to do with any person who is teaching falsehood (vs. 10). John will have us absolutely committed to nothing short of the truth found in Christ and His Word. Our commitment to God’s truth is at the very heart of our relationship to God.
