The Charlie story that went from local to national news - SmithicAir

Charlie from Crystal Lake did not return from a trip outside to go to the bathroom on a foggy morning on December 30th. There were initial sightings shortly after he went missing. The whole Crystal Lake community joined volunteers from dog recovery groups (especially Stacey Svob Medina) and the owners hired a thermal drone pilot, Kat from Dog Gone Pet Recovery, to help in the search. On Sunday, January 5th, the owners contacted SmithicAir to join in the search. Mike arrived around 1 PM and used the @DJI Matrice 30T to search the area. After 50 minutes of searching, Mike located Charlie and the microphone in his controller recorded the volunteers and owners reactions. The volunteers then helped prepare the owners for the recovery effort. Kat offered to help and launched her M30T so we had continual visuals of Charlie through battery changes. We were in communication with the owners so they had the information needed to slowly approach Charlie. Kat was able to capture the moment when Charlie decided to approach and trust her owners. From the owners: We are still in complete shock. After almost 7 days our baby was finally found this afternoon !! 🥲🙏🐶 Charlie unfortunately has a broken femur bone and is currently on his way to surgery. There is NO way we could have done this without the help of the thermal drones that came out to help us. I can’t thank Kat from Dog Gone Pet Recovery and Mike from @SmithicAir enough for the hard work they put into this. They came out in the bitter cold for hours to help find him (with no leads at all even where to look) it’s truly a miracle. He was spotted by the drone down the street at the park hiding in the tall grasses/broken trees. Also a huge thank you to Stacey Svob Medina who is truly an angel who guided us through this whole process. We could not have done this without her. David and I are completely blown away by the support of the community that we live in. Only living here a few years we have met so many wonderful people (unfortunately under these circumstances) I have been contacted by thousands of people reaching out and sending support and well wishes 🙏 and seriously thank you so much to everyone who was keeping their eyes out for Charlie!! You are all such incredible people!! If only Charlie knew how he has become the neighborhood celebrity lol. Praying for his speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹🙏 We can finally sleep with peace of mind. It’s been an absolute 7 day nightmare. Please PLEASE everyone trust the people who have worked in this field with finding a lost dog. Do not try to do it on your own. It will put the dog in even more danger if you do.
