In 1992, I got an opportunity to be an intern at Ruffhouse Records when they were in Philadelphia. At the time their major acts were Cypress Hill, Kris Kross and The Fugees. I was there when they didn't sign The (Square) Roots... but signed The Goats. That was a change I didn't see coming. This is the same time that CD's were being pushed more and Vynil began to fade off some. It was cool helping with things at the company. We got free lunches, all the promo shit and chances to meet people. I saw a lot of acts come thru with demo packages. One day I was sitting with another Ruffhouse A&R and he let me listen to Big L's Demo Tape... At the time, I was stuck. I was already a fan of Lord Finesse... and here comes L with that style ×10. I wish he would have signed Big L. Somehow he signed straight to Colombia. So it wasn't a total loss. Ruffhouse was under Columbia. They produced the soundtrack for the movie Zebrahead, which released Nas first single Halftime. That was on Ruffhouse. Rose gave me a copy of It Ain't Hard To Tell before it went in the stores... Those were great times. #RuffhouseRecords #CypressHill #KrisKross #Fugees #TheGoats
